Chicago
Bio: houselessness, but is a positive person. He is in a wheelchair yet still plays guitar (very well) often. He utilizes shelter, food, and storage services from DDH, as well as having been helped through recent medical issues by the staff. He doesn’t feel comfortable going back into the workforce without DDH help, given his personal and medical history.
-
Lorenz
Lorenz is an unhoused man living in Berkeley, California. He has been a guest of Dorothy Day House intermittently for many years, primarily only using their locker system. He personally believes on only taking what he needs, and sees Dorothy Day as slightly overworked, low resources— but feels the staff are very accessible and that they are doing a great job. He also distrusts the internet in general. They should have butter in the breakfast!
-
Shelly
Shelly is a cook in Dorothy Day House’s kitchen. She has been with them since March of 2022, and works with volunteers and other kitchen staff to keep track of the food programs. She has been in Berkeley for many years in the food industry and has experience providing food to the homeless before she came to DDH. She loves to see people become empowered through DDH services that help people with housing, health, and food.
